Overview:

Restoring Relationship Systems is like a compass designed to integrate biblical truth and enhance an individual’s ability to reflect Christ in their relationships. The course seeks to give students an overview of the development of Relationship Systems theory and practical skills for personal growth and ministry to others. The theme verse is Colossians 3:12-17.

Course Topics Include:

Bowen Family of Origin, Structural, Strategic, Post-Modern ways of ministry to individuals, couples, and families, Attachment, Gottman Research, Emotional Focused Therapy, Trauma and Poly Vagel ministry, Play Therapy with children and teens.

The Restoring Relationship Systems Course has a four-fold purpose that will help: 

  1. Raise-up Christian family counselors who can effectively minister to individuals, couples, and families in the nations.

  2. Repair the “breach” caused by dysfunction in the family.

  3. Restore biblical foundations in society that will effectively meet the challenges of modern day life in the family, at work, in the church, and culture.

  4. Introduces students to effective and unique interventions that can make a significant difference in family relationships

The overall aims of the School

  • To provide students with a knowledge of systemic counseling theory and skills from a Christian perspective

  • To provide Christian Counselors with the necessary understanding, skills, and spiritual maturity to help reach, restore, and equip those in need in sensitive, caring, and practical ways by using different systemic approaches and therapeutic interventions

  • To provide students with opportunities for continuing personal, professional, and spiritual growth.

  • Family Systemic thinking & theory - from individual to interpersonal

  • Biblical worldview of marriage & family

  • Systemic work with individuals

  • The family life cycle, transitions, & change

  • Family coordination through communication

  • Emotions, attachments, & systems

  • Different integrative models of family counseling & therapy

  • Reflecting teams and process

  • Assessment skills & interventions that help facilitate recovery from: addictions, eating disorders, abuse, violence, loss, boundary, gender and sexuality issues.Credits:

Twenty-two to twenty-four (22-24) semester-equivalent credits will be earned upon successful completion of the Restoring Relationship Systems School (FAM 328) and field assignment (FAM 329). These credits may be applied to a U of N degree program.
